Overview

As a new program, the UW AK IM RRP will be expansive in its search for a diverse group of trainees to fill the program’s complement. We will capitalize on the precedent set by the University of Washington, whose emphasis on trainee diversity and draw for applicants from diverse backgrounds is well established. We plan to assemble a group of faculty and staff that reflects both the diversity that we hope to nurture within the residency and the diversity that is inherent in a program with both rural and urban core training sites.

As residents move through our program, didactics will include annual training in diversity awareness and cultural competency, and professional development activities will take full advantage of the diverse clinical, scholarly, and educational opportunities available within Alaska and the broader UW system. Additionally, the program will offer elective clinical rotations at sites that reflect Alaska’s diverse communities, including sites run by Alaska Native tribal governments.
