Hello future primary care internists!
Thank you so much for visiting this site and for taking the time to learn more about our innovative new internal medicine residency, which is the first ACGME-accredited program of its kind in the nation, as well as the first internal medicine training program in Alaska.
The role of the outpatient general internist in a rural community is unique - part primary care physician, part internal medicine consultant, in either case responsible for managing the most medically complex patients in regions with limited healthcare resources. Our rural residency program is designed specifically to equip graduates with the clinical skills necessary to fill this challenging and rewarding role, as well as to serve as educators and leaders within their medical communities.
My colleagues and I each came to Soldotna for what was supposed to be a brief engagement and then stayed (or returned) because we share a passion for practicing and teaching general internal medicine in this beautiful state. We are thrilled to be training the next cadre of primary care internists and hope that you will consider joining us in rural AK!
If you would like more information about any aspect of the program, please do not hesitate to contact me at akmedres@uw.edu.
Sincerely,
Gail Pokorney, MD, FACP
