Overview

As of January 2023, our residency became the first-ever rural track program in internal medicine to be accredited by the ACGME. We are thrilled to offer this unique and comprehensive training opportunity for individuals interested in becoming rural primary care internists.

In line with the value we place on high quality patient care and excellence in clinical training, we are proud to be one of the University of Washington’s Internal Medicine residency programs. While there is curricular and resource overlap with the UW IM categorical and primary care programs, our program is distinct with its own selection/interview process.

Although many of our residency activities are hosted in Alaska, core administrative tasks for our program (e.g. payroll, benefits, malpractice insurance) are handled through the University of Washington Graduate Medical Education office in Seattle, WA.

Application process

Our program director and selection committee will consider your entire application, regardless of where you attended medical school.

Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP (2397140M0)).

We recruit two internal medicine primary care positions annually.

Those interested in the UW Affiliated Hospital Programs (in Seattle, WA) or the UW Boise Internal Medicine Program (in Boise, ID), please visit their websites for more information.

Timeline

We will start reviewing applications as soon as ERAS opens, typically late September. Please apply no later than October 15 to ensure we have sufficient time to consider your application thoroughly.
